Principal’s Message

Jackie Carducci GJHS Principal

I can’t tell you how many conversations I hear in a day that are overshadowed with disrespectful, hurtful, angry words. Whether they are spoken by teens or adults, they have the power to cause unmeasurable and irreversible pain.

Once they are said, it's not like we can take an eraser and wipe them away. As Ina Hughes explained in a personal narrative called “Betty Ann,” Sticks and stones only break bones. Words can shatter the soul.”

As we celebrate the upcoming Week of Respect, my hope is that we reflect on the power of our words and think about how we can express ourselves in a more positive way. Our conversations will become more meaningful, and we will not have to worry about trying to wipe away our words with an eraser.

Events & Honors:

Week of Respect: Governor Lombardo has proclaimed the first week in October as the Week of Respect. This initiative requires the Clark County School District (CCSD) to promote prevention and intervention activities to eliminate incidents of discrimination based on race, bullying, and cyberbullying in all schools and work environments. The week of respect begins on October 2, 2023, through October 6, 2023.

This week will feature videos on Greenspun TV, highlighting the Week of Respect. Be sure to watch every day to learn how to be an UPSTANDER. In addition, we encourage students to participate in the various activities we'll have on campus next week.

We want to encourage all Greenspun students to participate in the Get Your Blue On activity on Friday, October 6. We ask them to wear any shade of blue on this day.

The quarter ends on October 6th: All missing and redo assignments must be turned in by Wednesday, October 4th. Check Infinite Campus to see what assignments need to be turned in. All assignments must be turned in by October 4th, for this grading period.

PSAT testing: On behalf of the Clark County School District, I would like to inform you that the PSAT 8/9 will be given to all 8th-grade students at Greenspun JHS on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. In alignment with District Focus: 2024 goals, the test will be offered to students free of charge. This test's results and middle school recommendations may be used for 9th-grade course enrollment.

The PSAT 8/9 is the first test in the SAT Suite of Assessments offered by the College Board. Tightly aligned with the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT, the PSAT 8/9 establishes a college and career readiness baseline as students transition to high school. The PSAT 8/9 will support all students with early feedback on the skills and knowledge most matter to college and career success. This test is a pressure-free way for students to start exploring their path to college and a future career.

Parents and guardians, we appreciate your support of this assessment as your student continues through middle school, high school, and beyond. To learn more about the PSAT 8/9, we invite parents and students to visit: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9.
