Principal's Message

Jackie Carducci GJHS Principal

As students complete the third week of the third quarter, it is important to remember that   missing assignments are detrimental to their learning, as well as to their grades. It is also imperative to remind them that late work must be submitted within five days of the assignment’s due date, or the “Missing” will convert to a zero.

Researcher Marvin Byrd explains, “Missing assignments threaten student achievement because it’s hard for a teacher to give proper feedback.”  In addition, students miss opportunities to master the material, and they become overwhelmed because they fall behind in their classes.

Parents, I encourage you to monitor both  their Infinite Campus and Canvas classes and to remind them how important it is to complete their assignments on time. As educational experts report, “One good way to help students succeed is to track and review their progress over time.”

Both you and their teachers can use these progress checks to work together to develop an educational plan that assists your children in becoming a successful learner.

In addition, forming partnerships between home and school gives us valuable opportunities to collaborate for the benefits of our students. Together, we can have meaningful conversations and provide them with instructional support, as well as the encouragement they need for academic achievement and their overall well being.
